Great question, I’m a similar level to Design Manager.

We could have gone down the route of implementation through authority, and perhaps that would have worked in some cases. I’d be interested to hear how that has worked for you.

It would have been a risky strategy in my opinion for a new role in a new company to add extra demand on the people, who the role of DesignOps is set up to serve. As with anything though it depends on the context, if we can show value at scale but things aren’t getting done, you have to consider every way possible.

There is a lot to be said for the alignment of objectives and goals of the business, teams, and individuals. For me this seems the best way to build momentum, and importantly to get people on board.
